Silent Voices

Life support system was beeping continuously with every heartbeat. She was long asleep and the hallway was dead silent. She was comfortably numb with the pain she was going through. Her life was in a turmoil and emotional torment was breaking her from inside. The only thing that was keeping her alive, was the light she was carrying in her heart  A ray of light, not even a ray, just a flicker but it was enough to keep her warm. There was not much reason for anxiety as such but he was 'steady' according the doctors.
She embraced herself and prayed to god 'If god want to tread her life for his she was ready to do that.'
She longed for his love and affection. The way he used to keep his warm cheek against hers', the way he used to cry with her in her bad times and the heart melting smile he gave, every time she use to sing for him.
Everything was clear now, she could hear her own voice, the sweet carefree voice singing in a low tone, and the inaudible snore of a baby on her lap. Though the voice was clear and full of happiness, the hall kept dark and silent bereft of any noise.

“I wanted to tell the book thief many things, about beauty and brutality. But what could I tell her about those things that she didn't already know? I wanted to explain that I am constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race-that rarely do I ever simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant.” ―  Markus Zusak,  The Book Thief

Excerpt #13

“Usually we walk around constantly believing ourselves. "I'm okay" we say. "I'm alright". But sometimes the truth arrives on you and you can't get it off. That's when you realize that sometimes it isn't even an answer--it's a question. Even now, I wonder how much of my life is convinced.” ―   Markus Zusak,  The Book Thief

Excerpt #8

"I have never before had such a strong feeling that I was devoid of secret dimensions, confined within the limits of my body, from which airy thoughts float up like bubbles. I build memories with my present self. I am cast out, forsaken in the present: I vainly try to rejoin the past: I cannot escape." --Jean Paul Sartre, Nausea
